5 Ways to Make Your Small Business Stand Out

So you’ve just started your own business and you’re wondering how you can rise above the competition and bring in customers that will turn into loyal supporters. Luckily, there are many ways that you can make your product or service stand out from your competitors. Once you differentiate your company from others, customers will see why your company is the company they should be doing business with. Here are a few ways to do just that:

  1. Offer lower prices
If your business offers products or services that are very similar to competitors, try to differentiate based on price. If you can beat your competitor’s prices, you have already won over a huge amount of customers.
  2. Focus on one thing
Another way to differentiate your business is to focus on one aspect of your business and prove to customers why it is better than your competition. Figure out what about your product or service is better than the alternatives, whether it be excellent quality, superior customer service, or any other unique feature, and be sure to emphasize that in your advertising.
  3. Improve upon customer feedback
Always listen to what customers are saying about your business. If they have good things to say, be sure to continue to improve upon those strengths. If they have criticism, take it and use it to fix what you may be doing wrong. When you offer customers the solution they are looking for, they are more likely to choose your business over those who do not take customer feedback into consideration.
  4. Find your purpose
Remember that your mission statement establishes the company culture and defines your brand. A strong mission statement is one that customers will remember you by and will help you stand out from the crowd. Think about Zappos and Apple-- their mission and purpose is clearly defined and helps to create an emotional connection with their customers, which has allowed them to dominate their competitors in their respective industries.
  5. Focus on Overall Quality
Not only should you focus on ensuring that your products and services are the best of the best, but it is also important to consider things like your refund policy and satisfaction guarantees. Customers are going to appreciate a company that doesn’t make them go through the hassle of unfriendly return and refund policies. If you can make this aspect of your company exceptional, customers are definitely going to remember the experience that they had, and are likely to come back.

Although it may seem like your business is a small fish in a sea of hundreds, you have something unique to offer, so make sure to show your customers what that unique feature is! Once you emphasize this point more, and make it clear why it makes your business better, customers will begin to choose you over your competitors.
